THE BRIEF

By connecting a world of waste to a world of need, FoodBank (now FoodForward) works to create a South Africa free from hunger. Our brief was to create an annual report that brought their vision and what they do every day to life.

INSIGHT

Using their storage and distribution networks, Foodbank SA can use every rand donated to feed someone for a day. R35 feeds someone for a month and R400 is enough to feed someone for a whole year. The organisation essentially provides a cost-effective solution to a critical problem.

SOLUTION

We realised that every rand saved on the production of our annual report would translate into a person fed for a day. So, just as FoodBank SA repurposes excess food, we repurposed packaging from our major contributors to create the report. The end result is an annual report that reflects FoodBank SA’s aim, while acknowledging the brand’s contributors.

IMPLEMENTATION

We received donated packaging from Foodbank’s major suppliers and organised to have the report’s printing costs covered. A simple design language and visual look and feel further reduced the cost of production.

RESULTS

The R35 saved on each report allowed the FoodBank to feed almost 200 people for a month. The report received a merit award at the One Show advertising festival in New York.
